The Power of One
Share the light, share the light, illuminate the night
Let ignorance be banished in it’s glow.
Together or alone, we can make our presence known
And be a voice for those who have none of their own.
Shed a tear, feel the fear of the helpless far and near,
Our companions cast aside without remorse.
Some were loved and have known all the comforts of a home
but have no rights within the confines of our laws.
Much can be done, the power of one will help to overcome
The obstacles and problems that arise.
Although progress seems so slow, there is always room to grow,
To learn the lessons brought to us through friendship’s ties.
Family pets teach us best, with their loyalty we’re blessed.
They ask for very little in return.
Their fealty oft betrayed by the choices we have made.
It’s not too late to show compassion and concern.
Share the light, share the light, alleviate the plight
Of the homeless, of the frightened and the lost.
They will languish in the pound, search for love that can’t be found
Until we recognize a treasure unsurpassed.
When Hounds were created
They weren’t made in a day,
Nor were they perfect
In every way.
Their voices can sometimes
Make a man shiver
And their noses it seems
Are always aquiver.
But no matter those features
Be conceived as a vice,
They are eclipsed by the fact
That Hounds are so nice.
They are very special
In more ways than one,
Patient with children
And ready for fun.
Sweet natured companions
Who thrive on affection
Mostly they’ll listen
If given direction.
They cannot be faulted
For occasionally straying,
Floppy ears, nose to ground
Might well betray them.
But their virtues are many
With love they surround
The wonderful families
Who take home a Hound.
Dogs can be solicitous, precocious or perverse,
Incredible, ingenuous, they share our universe.
Dogs have learned to love us through the good times and the bad,
They understand our every mood from happiness to sad.
Dogs are not judgmental, nor dishonest and unkind,
Their emotions are the product of their sophisticated minds.
This proof is found the world around where people are befriended
By dogs of all persuasions showing love that’s never ending.
The time has come, emotions ripe for new considerations
On how we treat our loyal friends and repay their salutations.
Our reflections on companionship, fidelity and pride
Bring revelations celebrating the dog who’s by our side.
If the World were a Tapestry
If the world were a tapestry woven with love,
If the world were a picture seen from above,
All the parts of the whole would clearly belong
Like the harmony found in a perfect song.
If the world were a book with knowledge to share,
With the light of wisdom beamed everywhere,
there would be a kinship between all living things
With the wealth of diversity and mutual dreams.
If the world were a rainbow of colourful hue
With the radiance of infinite spectrum imbued,
Colours so vibrant to the eye would reveal
Mother nature’s capacity to nurture and heal.
If the world could rejoice in the perfection of nature,
If the world knew the worth of each living creature
It would be richer by far in ways beyond measure,
For they all add their value to the earth’s living treasure.
